Formed in 1955 the North Wales Car Club is best known for its' Cambrian Rally, which has an unbroken run of annual organisation for over 60 years. The other main event is the Cymru Trial, a British Championship qualifying round, and the club is also active in Autotesting, Marshalling and Social activities.

As well as the MSA, the North Wales Land Rover Club is affiliated to the Association of Land Rover Clubs (ALRC) and the Welsh Association of Motor Clubs (WAMC).

Our largest annual event is the Interclub held each year over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

A Club night is held on the 1st Monday of each month at the Fanol Fawr Hotel, Bodelwyddan. All are welcome to come along and see what the club has to offer, any time from 8:00pm onwards.

The Northern Ireland Land Rover Club is made up of a wide variety of members from all over Northern Ireland with a common interest in Land Rovers and the wish to use the vehicles for the purpose they were designed. Each month the club tries to organise at least 2 events including, but not limited to, green lane and forest runs, skills assessment events and general fun days.

A green lane run is a drive through forestry land or on public right of ways and can range from gentle tracks to open bog, all driven at a leisurely pace.

A Skills Assessment Event (SAE) is an MSA regulated, non speed, competitive event for 4X4 vehicles. These take the form of Cross Country (4X4) trials, orienteering and treasure hunts with the emphasis being on fun and improvement.

We also make our vehicles available to other organisations and motor sports Clubs. For example some of our Members provide MSA licensed rally recovery under the "Motorsports Recovery Northern Ireland" banner and many of our members are NI 4X4 Response Network volunteers which provides assistance to Govt agencies in times of extreme weather and disaster.

On the last Wednesday of each month we have a social meeting. This is where we decide on coming events and usually discuss the previous event. This is a good time to meet other members and talk Land Rovers.

A recent deviation for the Club is to allow "other makes " to compete in our events although the Club is still primarily Land Rover orientated all makes are welcome.

CLUB INFORMATION:

The Club was founded in 1980 with the objective of promoting a major international special stage rally on closed public roads in Northern Ireland. Over the years the event has a attracted a significant number of top class international competitors some of whom have gone on to compete and win at World Championship level.
A variety of reputable businesses have been associated with sponsoring the event with some of those contracts extending over a number of years.

The Club is primarily concerned with the promotion of safe and enjoyable events for competitors, officials and spectators. It has been at the forefront of innovative thinking; several of its ideas have been accepted by the MSA as mandatory or as examples of good practice. Through a series of initiatives the Club supports the training of officials and marshals and endorses the work of the Motorsport Marshalling Partnership.

The Club is aware of the role it can play in supporting the community both in the development of local tourism and the hospitality industry associated with hosting the rally. It also seeks to minimise the impact of its activities in areas, which require special sensitivity such as meeting its obligation to the ‘non-motor sport’ orientated public, the environment and the natural habitat of wildlife.

The Club holds regular working meetings and welcomes feedback and fresh ideas from competitors, event officials and marshals. It is also grateful for the support of the ANICC member clubs who participate in the running of the Ulster Rally.

We are a 4X4 club situated around the North West. We welcome any clubs, to our events. Our TYRO and RTV trials are open to any 4x4, we have had your average family cars entering our trials. All in good fun. We cater for all. Children from the age of 13 are made very welcome to enter also. Our CCV trials are only open to comp spec motors.
Camping is available at most of our events.
You can also find us at country shows, marshalling for other clubs or just generally giving a hand to those who need.

Summary

NORC is an off road racing club, based around the North and Midlands of England, although we do have members from all around the country. We meet once a month from March through to October for off road racing

The racing consists of arriving at a site, normally a farmers field, off road site or a quarry. The course would have been laid out the Friday night or Saturday morning, depending on whether the event is a single day or a two day event. Help is always appreciated to set up and pack away.

Prior to the event starting most drivers walk the course to choose lines and familiarise themselves with the course, all vehicles taking part in the event have to be checked (scrutineered) to ensure they meet the safety criteria of the MSA blue book (see below). The scrutineer will also give the vehicle a Class (see below). Vehicles can be bought for as little as £2000 when just starting out, and can go right up to £120k, but whatever vehicle you have, there's just as much fun to be had, in fact, more so in the cheaper ones sometimes as there's not as much pressure on keeping the vehicle pristine.

Following scrutineering drivers and navigators must sign on at the timing wagon and will be issued with wrist bands confirming they can compete, then usually around half an hour before the racing starts the clerk of the course will conduct a drivers briefing confirming important information such as number of runs, course live times, maximum times and any potential hazards on the course.



After the drivers briefing there is normally a drive round to familiarise yourself with the course and get a feel for how your vehicle will ride the terrain.

Each day usually consists of between 6 and 10 runs of a 2 to 6 mile track over a mixed range of terrain. The vehicle with the shortest times overall over the event wins the event.

Please take note of where competition numbers have to be placed. You MUST have one of the small numbers in the top passenger side corner of the windscreen. If you don't have a screen make something to put the number on so it is clearly visible. This is to aid the timekeepers. As of 2002 if you place the small numbers on your front wing you will FAIL SCRUTINEERING. Side numbers need to be placed as high as possible on your vehicle so they have a chance of being kept clean at the end of a run. All numbers must be cleaned between runs.

Championship

There is no charge for entering the NORC championship in 2015, you just need to be a member of NORC and complete a championship registration form (prior to you starting your first event) along with your membership to the membership secretary, or speak to the competition secretary. This form will allocate you your championship number for the season. Each race event will have a separate cost entry cost, we also offer a discounted season package which includes 2 memberships and entry to all 8 rounds, in addition we offer a heavily discounted season package for drivers who are new to comp safari. A Beginners Guide to Cross Country Racing (Comp Safari)

So you’d like to have a go at Cross Country racing? Well, the best way to start would be to come along to an event and see what happens, talk to the teams (we all love to talk about racing), that way you will get to see, and hear the cars, what the courses are like, and how a days racing works, and maybe even get yourself a ride for the afternoon. All you need to do is become a club member for the year for just £20!

Even better, come along and help as a marshal or time keeper for the weekend, then have a wander round the pits in the evening, and I’m sure that you’ll find an answer to all your questions. Just give one of us a bell (numbers on the contacts page) so that you’ve got a person to look for at the event, and we’ll try to keep you right.

Once you've got yourself and your racer ready for your first event you need to apply for a competition licence from the MSUK To race at a NORC event you require a 'non-race clubman' licence for 2020 which must be in hand before your first event and applied for direct from the MSUK.

So that’s the basics covered, you just need to get you and the car to the event, it has been known for people to drive the car to the event, but if you bend it, will the AA take you home? So you’ll be looking to buy / borrow / hire a trailer, just make sure that you tie the car down right! All the NORC events this year will run over 2 day’s so you’ll need somewhere to sleep, either a tent or a caravan is the norm, and the catering van can keep you fed and watered.

Hopefully, you’ve put it all together, and got to the venue nice and early so you’ve got plenty of time to get everything sorted. Find your self a spot to camp and service etc. Once you’re set up you’ve got 3 main things to do before the start, walk the course, scrutineering (ask people around you where and when it is), and then get signed on once you’ve passed. While you’re signing on in the club lorry, find out what time the drivers briefing is, and make sure that you go, as that’s where you’ll find out what time everything is happening.

There is normally a “parade lap” where you can have a slow drive round the course. If you’re new to the sport it’s good to do this as you’ve got a better feel for where the course goes, and what it’s like.

Sporting Trials involves special purpose-built cars, with a crew of two, negotiating a challenging and convoluted series of off-road uphill sections without stopping or hitting the course markers. It was a popular TV sport in the 1960's and 1970s featuring on BBC 'Grandstand'.
Most people outside the sport seem to know it as 'Hill Climbing', although that is actually a completely different branch of motorsport.

Northern Phoenix Trials Car Club (NPTCC) is based in Cumbria and is the largest dedicated sporting trials club in the UK. The Club runs its own championship of around 18 events a year and offers its members and guest competitors alike arguably the most scenic and challenging event venues to be found anywhere in the Country.

Our events season runs from January to December annually with a break in the summer.

New Club members are always welcome with opportunities to marshal and passenger even if you don't yet own a car. New members are often struck by the friendliness and helpfulness of fellow members who are happy to lend a hand or offer advice to anyone unsure of what to do or in difficulties.

While the Cumbrian Fells provide the Club’s home ground, its annual programme of events takes in great locations in Yorkshire and Scotland too.

And, as well as running its own Championship events, Northern Phoenix also organises and hosts national championship rounds for the British Trial and Rally Drivers Association (BTRDA) and the Motor Sports Association (MSA). This means that Club members get to compete with and pick-up tips on their home ground from the top drivers in the Country.

Although motorsport carries inherent risks for participants, Northern Phoenix takes event safety very seriously as evidenced by its health and safety policies, procedures and practices. As a consequence has an excellent safety record which it requires all members to play their part in maintaining. Novice drivers and passengers are supported by experienced hands in the Club plus a series of guidelines and we provide free initial basic training for novice drivers, passengers and marshals before letting them loose on the hills.

Our event officials are selected for their experience and competence to set safe courses and ability to scrutinise competitor’s vehicles effectively to ensure they are safe to compete. And we have guidelines and check lists to support their activities as well as our marshals too.

We can also offer plenty of advice about getting started in trials and can help you find a car if you are thinking of starting out in the sport. Although, one of the best ways to get involved and learn the skills and techniques involved in the sport is to marshal at events or passenger.

The championship provides an ideal and friendly introduction into sprinting and hillclimbing.
Championship scoring is based on target times which are calculated based on a percentage of class records and provides very close competition across the classes.
