About Us
In 1934 a small group of young men sensed that the golden age of motoring was passing. This was due to the advent of mass production and therefore, they imposed a 1931 cut off date for cars to be eligible to join the Club (from Austin Sevens to Grand Prix Bugattis), perhaps an arbitrary cut-off point, but one chosen to eliminate the compromises of mass production. However, in its long life the Club has consistently shown a willingness to move with the times and over the years fine racing cars from the post war period have been welcomed which can be regularly seen at speed events.
The Club has special Sections for Light Cars, Edwardians, Alfa Romeo, Delages and Frazer Nash, but overall the Club has played a defining role in the development of what has become a world-wide passion the love of old cars. In particular, the Vintage Sports-Car Club has fostered the active use of the finest cars.
Currently the VSCC has a global membership of over 7,500, many of whom enjoy the packed calendar of events which range from navigational rallies and off-road trials, driving tests, sprints, speed hill climbs and a host of social occasions. Keystone to the VSCC year are the race meetings which take place at high profile circuits regularly in the summer season, starting off at Silverstone in April and the Donington meeting, the pinnacle of the racing year.
The social element of the Club is essential to its success, and this can be seen in the large number of regular pub meets that take place all over the country and event abroad. The Membership are also well served by a wealth of quality publications, a monthly Newsletter and a well regarded quarterly magazine, The Bulletin, which is reason enough to be a VSCC member.
You would be hard pressed to find a car that was not catered for in the varied calendar. The Clubs ethos has always been one of friendly competition and nowadays all events are held under the auspices of The Motor Sports Association. Particular emphasis is placed on encouraging younger drivers, with special awards for under-23s. All Club events are held in beautiful parts of the British Isles and naturally lend themselves to a weekend trip away with the vintage car.
The Club enjoys a high profile within the historic motor racing world not only as an events promoter and social Club, but many of the Clubs members have been responsible for saving many important cars and have ensured they continue to be used as their creators intended. Quite often these responsibilities are passed from one generation of a family to a second or third.
The VSCC has its own headquarters which houses its archive, Library and permanent salaried staff who manage the Clubs services and events.
Since its formation the traditions of the Vintage Sports-Car Club have remained unaltered, although the events have become increasingly dynamic to cater for historic enthusiasts. The Club prides itself in being dynamic and able to adapt with the commercial aspects now involved in the motor sport world whilst respecting its history. This comes down to the long-standing ethos that Vintage is a description of quality, not age, rather like fine wine!
