John Willcocks
Biography
I have been competing as an MSA/Motorsport UK licence holder since 1976. Initially in the Dunlop Star of Tomorrow Formula Ford Championship, and having failed to become Champion, then spent several years in various South-East sprint Championships.
In 1987 I organised a series of races for BMW sprinters to see how we fared in circuit racing. This developed into the recently defunct (after 35 years) Kumho BMW Championship. I left the Kumho Championship in 1998 and started the multi-marque Toyo Tyres Racing Saloon Series, and to run alongside this, developed the E30 BMW Production BMW Championship. Both had the same aim, to provide the opportunity to race cost effectively around the UK and on European Grand Prix circuits; something of a holy grail for club racers.
Becoming ever more difficult as, an individual organiser, to compete with the National Racing clubs’ full time paid employees, regretfully both TTRS and PBMW were dissolved three years ago.
I gained my ARDS instructor licence about 22 years ago, but then moved to Canada, returning to the UK in 2009 and have since been instructing, predominantly at Goodwood, but at other UK circuits.
