Spain’s Jose Manuel Perez Aicart and Javier Herrera Alejos claimed victory, in the Hyundai Inster, at the 2026 FIA Eco Rally Scotland after a thrilling weekend of sustainable motorsport, with one of the closest finishes in FIA Eco Rally Cup history highlighting the incredible precision required to succeed.
The second running of FIA Eco Rally Scotland, organised by Motorsport UK in partnership with Saltire Rally Club, welcomed 15 crews from nine nations to Dundee for Round 8 of the 2026 FIA Eco Rally Cup. Across two days, competitors tackled a demanding 259-mile route through Tayside and the Fife coastline in standard production electric vehicles.
After a closely fought contest, Perez Aicart and Herrera Alejos secured the overall win ahead of defending champions Michal Žďárský and Jakub Nábělek from the Czech Republic.
Portugal’s Eduardo Carpinteiro Albino and Jose Carlos Figueiredo completed the podium in their Kia EV4 after taking victory in the regularity classification. Championship leaders Guido Guerrini and Artur Prusak, driving a Lancia Ypsilon, narrowly missed out by just 0.2 seconds – matching the closest finish ever recorded in FIA Eco Rally Cup competition.
Unlike traditional rallying, Eco Rally rewards consistency rather than outright speed. Crews navigate public roads while aiming to maintain precise average speeds through regularity tests, all while using the energy stored in their vehicle as efficiently as possible. Every fraction of a second counts, with performance monitored via GPS across hundreds of timing points.
It’s a discipline that perfectly demonstrates that adventure doesn’t require a purpose-built competition car. Instead, competitors take on an international motorsport challenge in the same electric vehicles many people drive every day, proving that your next adventure could be closer than you think.
Based in Dundee, the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design and one of the country’s leading electric vehicle cities, the event once again showcased Scotland as an ideal destination for electric motoring. Bell Street Mobility Hub, Abertay University and John Clark Motor Group all played key roles in delivering the event, while Evolt Charging powered by SWARCO supported crews throughout the weekend as Official Charging Partner.
The FIA Eco Rally Cup continues to provide manufacturers with an opportunity to demonstrate electric vehicle technology in real-world conditions, while promoting energy efficiency, responsible driving and sustainable mobility through motorsport.
