The September 2026 Clerks’ & Stewards’ Bulletin brings together the latest guidance and reminders to support you in delivering safe, fair and well-run events. This edition includes an important reminder on spectator safety and restricted areas, guidance on helmet cameras and Smart Glasses, and details of upcoming webinars covering licence renewals, health and safety, and Race with Respect.
Spectator Safety
We’ve received reports of spectators, including Club members, accessing restricted or out-of-bounds areas at events.
Please remember that these areas must remain clear of spectators at all times, including family members, Club officials and board members. These restrictions are there to keep everyone safe – spectators and drivers alike – and help events run safely and smoothly. If you see someone in a restricted area, please speak to them and direct them to the appropriate spectator area.
By working together and remaining vigilant, we can help keep our events safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Helmet cameras and Smart glasses
Scrutineers are seeing an increasing number of helmets fitted with aftermarket cameras, so we’d appreciate your help in reinforcing the requirements with Competitors at events.
Under National Competition Rule Chapter 9 Article 9.4, aftermarket camera devices fitted to, or within, a helmet are prohibited. This also includes the use of ‘Smart’ or AI Glasses, with the NCR permitting only glasses used solely for correcting eyesight in accordance with Chapter 6 Appendix 2 Article 6.7 and/or for sun protection. Only helmets with integral cameras homologated as part of the helmet’s Standard approval are permitted.
These requirements are important for Competitor safety. An externally mounted camera can concentrate the force of an impact and may prevent the helmet’s rounded surface from sliding freely following contact. Internally mounted cameras also present a risk if they become detached during an impact, potentially becoming a loose object inside the helmet.
We appreciate your support in reminding Competitors about the requirements for helmet cameras and Smart Glasses. We would please ask that a mention is made to Competitors in Drivers’ briefings and, where appropriate, Supplementary Regulations, helping to reinforce the message consistently across events.
