We all remember the people who helped us get involved in motorsport but for many people, getting started isn’t easy. To make motorsport more accessible, more welcoming and more representative of modern Britain, Motorsport UK is proud to launch its new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy.

The strategy supports Motorsport UK’s Vision 2030 goal of encouraging more people to enjoy motorsport more often. It builds on the success of the previous strategy which introduced successful initiatives such as Race for Diversity, the Disabled Driver Scholarship, Race With Respect and the Inclusion Hub alongside Girls on Track UK.

Over recent years, these programmes have helped introduce many new people to motorsport, opening pathways for competitors, volunteers, officials and future industry professionals. However, Motorsport UK recognises that barriers to entry remain, with many newcomers finding the sport difficult to navigate or struggling to progress after their first experience.

The new strategy shifts the focus from individual programmes to a broader participation-led approach that considers the entire motorsport journey – from initial discovery and first involvement through to long-term engagement and belonging.

Our work over the next five years will be guided by three key pillars:

Inspire will focus on attracting new participants through clearer entry points, taster events and greater awareness of opportunities within the sport.

Nurture aims to support people as they progress, creating more accessible pathways for competitors, volunteers, officials and club organisers.

Belong centres on ensuring everyone enjoys a positive, respectful and inclusive experience throughout the motorsport community.

Success will be measured not only through participation growth and membership retention, but also by how supported volunteers feel, how welcoming clubs become and whether participants feel valued.

To be able to deliver our vision we’ll need everyone’s support, with clubs, volunteers, officials, competitors and fans all playing a vital role in ensuring motorsport remains open, accessible and thriving for future generations.

Every time someone welcomes a newcomer, answers a question, encourages a first event entry, supports a volunteer or shares their experience, they help strengthen the future of the sport because the people we help will always remember the people that welcomed them into our community.
