During 2025, the NCR was updated to mandate that helmets used for karting must have FIA 8858-2010 FHR anchorages removed.
The full regulation can be found in NCR Chapter 18, Appendix 7:
NCR Ch.18, App.7, Art.3.5 states:
“For helmets with 8858-2010 M6 anchorages (FHR attachment points), the M6 anchorages must not be fitted in Karting for safety reasons.”
Competitors who also compete in disciplines where FHR anchorages are required, and who wish to use a helmet compliant for both car and kart disciplines, may remove the FHR anchorages before using the helmet for Karting and refit them afterwards.
If anchorages are present on a helmet during PPE Scrutineering, competitors must be asked to remove them before the helmet can be accepted. Removal is straightforward and simply involves undoing the fixing screw holding the anchorage in place. In most cases, a plastic plug can then be inserted to protect the exposed threaded insert, although a piece of tape may also be used to cover it.
It is recommended that Scrutineers make a note of the competitor’s race number and class so that, if the same helmet enters the technical area later in the meeting with the anchorages refitted, it can be identified that the helmet has been modified since it was accepted during PPE Scrutineering.
Competitors are also reminded that they must present all PPE they may use during the event at the designated PPE Scrutineering time. For example, competitors using both a wet-weather helmet and a dry-weather helmet will be required to present both for inspection.
