Fastest ever BTCC blasts off at Donington Park
This year’s Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship – kicking off this weekend at Donington Park – promises to be even faster and more environmentally friendly than ever before.
A switch from hybrid to 100 per cent sustainable fuel for the 2025 season means cars are now some 55 kilogrammes lighter and nimbler as a result. They will, however, have the same push-to-pass power boost as in 2024 – the additional power surge now coming via the turbo rather than energy stored in on-board batteries.
As a result, the 2025 modified machines look set to be the fastest BTCC cars ever with the pace shown in pre-season testing already dipping below existing lap records.
Making even more history, the BTCC is the first major championship in the UK to adopt fully sustainable fossil-free fuel for all its cars, once again underlining its pioneering position at the forefront of innovation and industry-leading standards.
“The work never stops in the BTCC,” confirms the series’ chief executive Alan Gow. “Moving to 100 per cent fully sustainable fuel ensures the BTCC maintains the same high levels of competitiveness, performance and excitement, but in a more sustainable way and with the added advantage of our cars being lighter and more dynamic.”
Last year’s title fight went right down to the wire with Jake Hill and Tom Ingram tied on points going into a thrilling season finale at Brands Hatch. Both Hill and Ingram return in 2025 along with two other former multiple champions: Ash Sutton and Gordon Shedden.
Two further notable entries are the return of Nic Hamilton and 18-year-old rookie Max Hall.
Hamilton – brother of seven-time F1 World Champion Lewis – lives with cerebral palsy and he maximises his participation in the BTCC to challenge perceptions and inspire others with disabilities to participate in motorsport.
Teenage newcomer Hall, a graduate of the Motorsport UK Academy, has earned his promotion having been crowned Rookie Cup Champion in last year’s Mini Challenge. He has already caused a stir by being among the pace-setters in pre-season testing and clearly has talent to burn.
Once again, all ten race meetings on the 2025 BTCC calendar will enjoy around eight hours of broadcast live and free on ITV4. What’s more, on Sundays international viewers can now follow a live stream – including all support series’ showdowns – via the official BTCC YouTube channel here.
