BWRDC celebrates women winners
This weekend, the British Women Racing Drivers Club (BWRDC) celebrated women in motorsport across all its disciplines, from grassroots level upwards.
It’s been another busy year for the club, with various members having successful seasons and the launch of the club’s IntoSpeed programme – creating an affordable and accessible series of events to introduce women to Hillclimbing. IntoSpeed has been so well received, that it is set to return for 2025, across even more venues around the UK.
A huge congratulations to all those who received an award on the night, here are just some of the 2024 season winners:
Kart
Sukhmani Khera has just progressed to Juniors from Waterswift Class. Aged just 12, she is an Alpine Rac(H)er programme driver. Sukhmani is the only girl from the UK to have been chosen and continues to grow from strength to strength on her karting journey.
Rally
Emma Cope, a previous Goldstar Junior nominee, took the Rally crown for her superb performance during the 2024 season.
Rally Co-driver
Emma Morrison has had recent success in the Circuit Rally Championship, coming 2nd co-driver during the last running of the Championship (which spanned 2023 and 2024). To date, she has taken 2 wins in this year’s championship for the 2024-2025 season. With an extensive history in the sport, Emma receives the BWRDC Rally Co-driver award for the 2024 season.
Hillclimb
Caroline Ryder had a successful 2024 season, scooping top three places at her events and a Hillclimb class podium. A key figure in the IntoSpeed programme and a regular on the UK HillClimb circuit, be it driving or supporting other women, Caroline takes the 2024 Hillclimb trophy.
Sprint
Alison Lock is the 2024 Sprint winner, following a successful season in her Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV.
Helen Spence Trophy (best performance by a marshal)
Marion Quarrington, an important part of the MG Car Club family, has been marshalling for numerous years and is often found with a small bear in the top pocket of her Marshal overalls. Marion’s dedication and love of motorsport has seen her marshal across a range of events including at PFI, Kimbolton and as a Shenington Kart Marshal, in addition to acting as Paddock Marshal for Speed events such as at Prescott. She has also been one of the Chiefs in the Support Pits for the F1 for the last few years. Her incredible dedication sees her receive the Helen Spence Trophy for the 2024 season.
The BWRDC’s IntoSpeed initiative returns for 2025, offering increased opportunities for women to try motorsport for the first time, through taster days, expert driver tuition and even the opportunity to compete at events around the UK.
The programme centres around Hillclimbing, the most accessible of motorsport disciplines, which is contested against the clock in a range of easily accessible and affordable road cars throughout the UK. More information can be found here.
