Friday 31 January 2025

Brecon Motor Club saw in its centenary at a celebratory event in the town’s indoor market last weekend, welcoming in a range of display cars and over 1,000 local attendees to the event.

Club chairman, Malcolm Rich and his dedicated organising committee, organised a display which included a vintage Singer, a modern Toyota Yaris rally car brought by Jason Pritchard from North Road Garage in Builth Wells, and a magnificent ex-Roger Clark RAC Rally-winning Cossack Ford Escort RS1800 brought along by Jason’s father.

The ‘barn find’ of the event was an Alfa Ferrari belonging to Leominster farmer Andy Burton, built from scratch for stage Rallying.

Members of Motorsport UK’s StreetCar team were in attendance, presenting the club with an award for their dedication to grassroots motorsport and increasing participation.

Ben Cross, Club Development Coordinator, comments, “Our StreetCar programme celebrates grassroots motorsport across the length and breadth of the UK, and we were delighted to join Brecon Motor Club for their 100 year celebration. It is thanks to the busy events calendar and dedicated team, that motorsport can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities.”

Launched in 2022, StreetCar was created to demonstrate that motorsport is affordable and accessible to all, encouraging more people to get behind the wheel and enjoy the sport. There are now 76 clubs that are part of the StreetCar community across the country, including Brecon Motor Club.
