Thursday 19 December 2024

Knockhill Motor Sports Club has been rewarded with Motorsport UK’s Sustainable Club of the Year Award for 2024.

Initially formed in 1990 and then rejuvenated in 2011 to host KMSC/Scottish Championship race meetings, the Knockhill Motor Sports Club continues to innovate and trial events and racing formats for its over 350 members whilst encouraging up and coming motorsport enthusiasts to get involved.

The club was recognised for its commitment to produce 30% of self-generated electricity by 2027, in addition to pledging to reduce its overall carbon footprint.

Stuart Gray, Knockhill Motor Sports Club commented, “As Chairman of the Knockhill Motor Sports Club, I am thrilled to receive this award on behalf of the KMSC and Knockhill Racing Circuit.

“In a joint long-term strategy, the Club are pushing forward with plans to 200% offset all its racing championships by 2026, starting with the Scottish Legends Championship, working with Carbon Positive Motorsport. The Circuit has partnered with Cataclean as its sustainability partner and has engaged in a wide variety of green investments including installing solar panels, converting to greener fuel sources and embarking on a tree planting programme with Akre, a local tree nursery.”

For its sterling, award-winning efforts, the innovative Knockhill Motor Sports Club gains a new logo badge as well as collecting a £1000 prize plus a special trophy from Motorsport UK – both to be presented at next month’s Night of Champions held at the Royal Automobile Club in London.
