Following its recent relaunch, Motorsport UK’s Race for Diversity programme held a successful day of activations at TeamSport Leeds, inviting 45 students aged 14-15 years old from four local schools.

Students took part in a series of STEM focused activations, focusing on developing key skills, like teamwork, time management and collaboration before having the opportunity to test their learnings on the indoor kart track.

The Race for Diversity programme aims to increase the participation and involvement of 14 to 24-year-olds from Black, Asian, minority ethnic groups and economically disadvantaged backgrounds through inspirational STEAM interventions, in motorsport.

During 2024 the programme has engaged with over 400 students across the UK, at a variety of school activations in addition to in-situ experience during events at Silverstone Formula Student, Goodwood Revival and Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Working with up to five schools across four key locations; London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester, the programme seeks to help young people find a supportive and collaborative environment that fosters and encourages their passion for the sport.

Evelkah Powell, Race for Diversity Manager commented, “Following our successful relaunch in Birmingham earlier this month, we were able to continue sharing the unique opportunities that Race for Diversity promotes with a cohort of students from Leeds. Having engaged with over 400 students across the UK this year, the programme continues to go from strength to strength – and I’m looking forward to continuing this into 2025 and beyond.”
