Wednesday 23 October 2024

The Opening Ceremony of the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games took place in Valencia, Spain tonight [23 October].

The 82 participating nations gathered during the Opening Ceremony at the stunning City of Arts and Sciences.

Over 700 competitors were welcomed at the Opening Ceremony’s Parade of Nations. Team UK’s 24 competitors joined the procession – spread across 16 disciplines at the event, the largest representation of UK motorsport talent to date.

2024 sees the return of the multidisciplinary event, with drivers competing across 27 disciplines.

Team Captain and GT Cup driver Chris Froggatt returns to compete for podium position for the second time, alongside second driver James Cottingham, following illness preventing him competing in 2022, “I’m really looking forward to representing Team UK, particularly driving alongside James. As team captain, I’m eager to see how the drivers across the various disciplines come together and learn from each other.”

“There are several strong competitors in our category, and the grid will certainly be competitive. I welcome the challenge ahead, and James and I are fully prepared to give it our all.”

Ten-year-old Austin Gibson, the team’s youngest member competing in Karting Mini commented ahead of the Opening Ceremony, “I am really looking forward to meeting the other Team UK drivers and seeing my competition. My biggest rivals could be the Spanish drivers, I think, as it is their home crowd. I’m feeling very confident, I can’t wait and will give it my best.”
