Top ten for Moffatt

Monday 19 August 2024

Huge congratulations to the amazing Alastair Moffatt who has clinched his tenth Motorsport UK British Autotest Championship – his latest success coming at the Northern Autotest double-header weekend expertly organised by the Hartlepool & District Motor Club.

It was a fourth consecutive crown for the Gloucestershire-based driving wizard who first won the title in 2008. This time around the maestro, in his Mini Special 1400, overcame strong challenges from the Lotus 7 inspired Sylva Strikers of regular rivals Willie Keaning, Stephen Morten and Chris Chapman as well as fellow Mini man David Mosey.

“A first and second place secured my tenth Motorsport UK Championship,’ confirmed a delighted Moffatt who had further reasons to celebrate. “It was my 90th win on my 30th year of autotesting.”

Alastair has been a motorsport competitor since the age of eight and over time has maximised his incredible precision driving techniques to set Guinness World Records and to perform stunt shows.

Many of those car control skills were learned and perfected in autotesting – an immensely popular form of motorsport which requires drivers to negotiate a memorised, low-speed course – without hitting any markers – in the fastest possible time.

While Moffatt’s numerous successes have come abroad a specially prepared Mini, the very accessible and enjoyable sport also includes classes for everyday showrooms models with absolutely no modifications.

If you want to find out more – and perhaps one day follow in all-conquering Alastair’s meticulous wheel-tracks – do not miss Motorsport UK’s inaugural StreetCar Festival.

Taking place on Sunday 8 September at Bicester Motion, this very special event has been set up specifically to provide the perfect opportunity for all-comers to have a go at various forms of fun and competitive motorsport in their everyday road car.
