British drivers look set to be front and centre in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup this weekend as it hits Silverstone on British Grand Prix race day this weekend.

Brit Harry King put on a dominant display in the first round on the streets of Monaco back in May, while a scintillating Austria fightback from 11th to third last weekend left the Motorsport UK Academy Team UK star tied in the points lead ahead of Sunday’s encounter. However, he was demoted to 10th after post-race penalties, and loses position in the championship as a result.

Nonetheless, it was an impressive performance from the BWT Lechner Racing driver. His spirited drive to third, just behind the race-long battle between Bastian Buus and Larry ten Voorde, puts King in prime position for more success at Silverstone.

The highly competitive series uses identical 911 GT3 Cup (Type 992) cars and headlines the Porsche ‘pyramid’, which features a myriad of Carrera Cup categories for various nations around the globe. King, a graduate of Ginetta racing, is a former Carrera Cup GB and Benelux champion and is dovetailing his Supercup campaign with a Carrera Cup Germany programme this year.

Gus Burton moved from British GT to Porsche racing in 2022, claiming the Rookie title in Carrera Cup GB before his graduation to Supercup this year with experienced Swiss team Fach Auto Tech. A challenging Monaco opener was followed by qualifying seventh in Austria last weekend, but an incident put paid to his race and any chance of points.

Adam Smalley is a two-time Ginetta racing champion and 2022 Motorsport UK Academy Team UK driver. He returns to Supercup once again for his home round, having also appeared last year as a guest entry.

Smalley won the Porsche Carrera Cup GB junior scholarship at the end of 2021, enabling his move to the championship the following season. He finished runner-up to Harry King but has returned to the series again this year with Team Parker Racing and currently leads the standings. This weekend in his Supercup one-off, he’ll be looking to improve on his 12th-place finish from last year.

Experienced Scotsman Ross Wylie also makes a one-off appearance in Supercup this weekend for Richardson Racing. The current Porsche Carrera Cup GB competitor, who has been in the series since 2020 and lies second in the Pro-Am category, is making his first start in the F1-supporting championship. He is a former McLaren Young Driver in GT racing and has contested a number of national and international sportscar championships in recent years.

Round 3 of the championship gets underway at 11:55 on Sunday (July 9) and is broadcast live on Sky Sports F1 in the UK.
