Early May Bank Holiday is upon us and there is another action-packed weekend of motorsport activity up and down the country and on the international stage.

From the Drift Pro Championship and British Superkart Championships at Cadwell Park to the continuation of the British Hillclimb Championship in Northern Ireland and the launch of the Gen 3 car in Formula E for round six in Monaco, there’s plenty on.

Here’s everything you need to get up to speed with this weekend action.

Cadwell Park to host opening events of the British Superkart Championship and Drift Pro Championship

Cadwell Park will host the opening rounds of the British Superkart Championship and Drift Pro Championship as they kick off their 2022 season.

Reigning champion Ross Allen returns to defend his title in Division 1 of the British Superkart Championship. Allen picked up three wins in last year’s championship on the way to securing the title.

All four Superkart classes will be catered for with Division 1, F250 National, F450 National and 125 Open due to compete in a mixed grid.

The races will be of 12 minutes duration and points will be awarded in each class to every driver that starts a race. A class winner will receive 25 points then 20 for 2nd, 16 for 3rd and then on a sliding scale. There will be three races spread across the weekend with grid positions for the opening race determined by timed qualifying.

The 2022 Drift Pro Championship will comprise of eight events taking place at six of the UK’s best circuits. Each event has a set timetable, specific course layout and a series of challenges to provide an exciting and rewarding experience that will appeal to drivers and spectators.

British Hillclimb Championship heads to Northern Ireland

The British Hillclimb Championship continues with round two as they travel to Craigantlet, Northern Ireland.

This event is different to most of the British Hill Climb Championship as the Craigantlet Hillclimb takes place on closed public roads rather than private roads which is what the majority of the Championship consists of. This makes Craigantlet a very exciting and different driving and spectating experience.

Scott Moran and Alex Summers left Prescott as joint leaders after the opening event of the 2022 British Hillclimb and the contenders will look to score good early points in the second round of the championship.

The event also act as the second round of the Miller Oils ANICC Hillclimb Championship which will see a large number of local drivers take on the challenge on the outskirts of Belfast.

The 1,460 yard climb is spectacular, with the current record standing at 39.12 seconds, an average speed of close to 78mph from a standing start.

Around the Clubs

There is a lot going on around the clubs this weekend with a plethora of disciplines to please every form of motorsport fan and participant.

The Spring Speed Nationals Drag Race will be hosted at the Santa Pod Raceway with tickets available on the door and online. The Staffordshire and Shropshire Land Rover Club will be holding the untimed Baden Hall CCV Trial and Plymouth Motor Club are organising the Werrington Hillclimb. The Berwick and District Motor Club will be holding the Berwick Targa Rally and the MG Car Club are travelling to Anglesey Circuit for the Anglesey Sprint.

On the International Stage

Formula E heads to Monaco for round six ofthe FIA Formula E World Championship. The battle for the world championship continues with a four-point difference between third place driver Stoffel Vandoorne and first place contender Jean-Eric Vergne. Robin Frijns is only two points off the top spot so it will be a close battle as the contenders continue to do battle.

Formula E is also launching their brand-new all electric Gen3 Formula E car at Monaco this weekend.
