The Easter weekend is packed full of a variety of motorsport activity up and down the UK. From drag racing and rallycross to circuit racing and the grassroots. There is plenty to be getting up to speed with this weekend.

Festival of Power, Santa Pod Raceway / British Drag Racing Championship

Making its return to Santa Pod Raceway, Festival of Power will feature more than 300 vehicles across a wide variety of drag racing classes.

Alongside a plethora of on and off track activities, the 2022 Motorsport UK British Drag Racing Championship begins with the first of six rounds ahead of September’s STP National Finals.

Pro Modified became the designated class of the Championship in 2007 and consists of six rounds, contested between Easter and late September. All rounds are held at the renowned Santa Pod Raceway. Find out more here – https://britishdragracing.org/.

The 2021 Championship featured a battle between Kevin Slyfield and Nick Davies, resolved only on the final afternoon. Slyfield came out on top in his 57 Ford Thunderbird and he makes a return in 2022. Davies also returns in his 68 Pontiac Firebird.

Further competitors include Wayne Nicholas (62 Chevrolet Corvette), Annie Wallace (04 Ford Mustag), Jean Dulamon (68 Chevrolet Camaro), Andy Robinson (69 Chevrolet Camaro), Michel Tooren (71 Plymouth Barracuda) and Matt Peters (96 Dodge Avenger).

Motorsport Month Anglia and South East

Motorsport Month Anglia and Motorsport Month South East continues. In Anglia, Snetterton is playing host to club racing on 16 and 17 April before welcoming Classic Car racing on 18 April. The South East will see the championship openers for the British Truck Racing Championship and British Rallycross Championship.

British GT Championship – Oulton Park, Cheshire

The British GT Championship returns to its synonymous Easter Bank Holiday slot in the Oulton Park sunshine after a two-year absence, as a bumper 31-car field prepare to kick off the 2022 season.

A pair of one-hour long sprint races around the 2.6-mile lakeside circuit marks the start of another campaign for a hotly-contested field across both the GT3 and GT4 categories, featuring manufacturers such as Mercedes-AMG, Lamborghini, McLaren, Bentley, Audi, Porsche, BMW, Aston Martin, and many more!

Notable entries include Mercedes-AMG star Jules Gounon in alongside Ian Loggie at RAM Racing, Sandy Mitchell, and Adam Balon in the Barwell-run Lamborghini Huracan and WPI Motorsport’s pairing of Michael Igoe and Phil Keen.

An action-packed support bill features the opening round of the GB3 Championship, as well as races from GB4, TCR UK, Ginetta’s GT5 Challenge and the Northern Saloons.

British Truck Racing Championship – Brands Hatch, Kent

The heavyweights of the British Truck Racing Championship arrive at Brands Hatch this weekend, with a packed bill of five races to kick off their 2022 campaign.

Action from the ‘big rigs’ never fails to disappoint, with these 1000bhp, five-tonne machines set to battle it out around the 1.2-mile Indy circuit.

Six-time and defending champion Ryan Smith headlines the entry list but will face stern opposition from the likes of Stuart Oliver, Dave Jenkins and John Newell as he bids for yet another crown in the UK’s premier tier of truck racing.

British Rallycross Championship – Lydden Hill, Kent

Lydden Hill hosts the opening round of the British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy this weekend.

Headlining the bill is a 14-car entry to the Supercar category, with 2021 champion Derek Tohill agreeing a late deal to compete at the season opener in a PFCRX-run Ford Fiesta.

A bumper weekend of rallycross action continues throughout the rest of the programme, including the Supernational, RX150, Juniors, Swift Sport, BMW MINI, ALL4 Mini, Super Retro, Retro and Retro 4WD categories.

Asphalt Rally Championship – Nigel Fergusson Fabricates Tour of Epynt

Port Talbot Motor Club hosts the season-opening round of the Asphalt Rally Championship on the legendary roads of Epynt, Wales.

A 78-car strong entry list will take to the stages for an event that also marks a round in the Welsh National Tarmacadam, Promotive Engineering King of Epynt, ANWCC Stage Rally and Independent Paint Supplies Rally championships.

Entries include 2021-22 MSN Circuit Rally Champion Neil Roskell and Welsh Rally Championship front-runners Tom Llewellin and co-driver Jack Bowen.
