Motorsport UK’s annual Club and Volunteer Awards now open for nominations

Thursday 25 August 2022

Motorsport UK is pleased to announce that nominations for its annual Club and Volunteer awards are now open.

Now entering their 30th year, the awards are an opportunity for the UK’s governing body and membership organisation to recognise and celebrate the efforts of clubs, volunteers and organisations for their outstanding contribution to our vibrant motorsport community.

For almost three decades, the Club of the Year award has celebrated collaborative work with other clubs, shared best practices, opening motorsport to the local community and members, developing volunteers through training opportunities and generally going above and beyond in all areas.

Last year’s winner was Dukeries Motor Club, chosen for their efforts in new and existing membership communication and their proactive embrace of technology during the COVID-19 pandemic, both of which helped contribute to a strong calendar of events.

Another mainstay is the Volunteer of the Year award. Held over the last 19 years, this award similarly reflects the hard work of those that dedicate their time and efforts to provide the foundation of the UK’s thriving motorsport scene.

Recipients have showcased their dedication, but also their leadership skills and the ability to overcome problems in their area of expertise. The 2021 winner was Charley Webber, who for the past 30 years has provided crucial track and stage-side rescue support to organisers around the country.

The final returning award is Organising Team of the Year. This is judged on an ability to work together and engage the local community.

The team behind the Old Forge Mewla Rally were victorious in 2021, with their hard work, dedication and superb attention to detail delivering a COVID-safe event that not only embraced a more contact-free, technology driven timing and registration system, but also safeguarded the venue for future use by publicising the need for spectators to refrain from attending.

Lastly, and new for 2022, Motorsport UK is pleased to announce the introduction of the Sustainable Club of the Year award, in line with the organisation’s broader commitment to a sustainable future for the sport.

This award seeks to highlight the clubs that have taken a proactive and impactful approach to environmental sustainability over the year. Clubs will have showcased the actions they have taken, efforts to educate their members and subsequent behavior changes.

The Club of the Year and Organising Team of the Year winners and runners-up will all receive a prestigious Motorsport UK trophy, with the winners also collecting a cheque for £1,000 and the runners-up a £500 cheque. The Volunteer of the Year award winner and runner-up will both be awarded a Motorsport UK trophy and a cheque for £500 and £250 respectively. The Sustainable Club of the Year winner will be awarded a trophy and a cheque for £1000.

Motorsport UK is also inviting nominations for recipients of Long Service Recognition Certificates. Clubs, regions, or events are asked to put forward suggestions of officials with more than 40 years of service. Nominations for all awards close on Monday 31st October and winners will be announced in December.
