Oxford Universities Motorsport Foundation (OUMF) is now the first student car club that is a fully-fledged member of Motorsport UK’s StreetCar programme, introducing more members to the UK’s vibrant grassroots motorsport community.

Launched in 2022, StreetCar was created to demonstrate that motorsport is affordable and accessible to all, encouraging more people to get behind the wheel and enjoy the sport. There are now 67 clubs that are part of the StreetCar community across the country.

The programme provides the opportunity to take part in a variety of disciplines, including Autotest, Rally and Trials and Cross Country events. From Treasure Hunts to Navigational Rally and Historic Rally events, all 12 disciplines can be enjoyed with a standard unmodified road car and free valid RS Clubman licence.

Founded in 2005 by Ding Boston, former holder of the ‘Sebring Sprite Memorial’ trophy, OUMF exists to provide real racing experience to the next generation of motorsport professionals and enthusiasts.

Current OUMF President and Motorsports Engineering student, Oliver Raja-Brown, comments, “The opportunity for students to have the chance to drive their own car and experience how the mechanics affects the handling, be it a Twelve Car Rally or a Scatter Rally, it really allows for a deeper understanding of how it affects the car’s dynamics. We are hoping to do more events this year, so the opportunity to join StreetCar will highlight other opportunities alongside engineering, that every petrol head really wants to do!”

All the cars in OUMF’s garage have been built from the ground up by the student members since 2005. In addition to the 1962 Sebring Sprite race car, OUMF also has a 1959 Riley 1.5 Racer, a 1959 Elva Courier Sports Racer and the infamous “Inca” Alfa Sprint – restored after an altercation with an alpaca whilst on a Rally across South America, amongst its fleet.

The club now has a core team of 12, with around 50 new recruits involved this year. OUMF have an action-packed 2025 planned, with attendance at Silverstone Historic, the NEC Classic Car Show and Autosport International already in the calendar.

During 2024, OUMF competed in the Historic Racing Drivers Club series, in addition to the Abingdon Stage Rally and the Ardeca Ypres Rally.

OUMF meets every Tuesday, and more information can be found on their website.
