This summer’s Scotland StreetCar Festival is set to bring the energy, variety and community spirit of grassroots motorsport to Dundee, showing that there is a motorsport for everyone.
The event, which runs over the weekend from 31 July to 2 August, comes just a month after a record-breaking attendance at the British Grand Prix which proved that motorsport is more popular than ever in the UK. The Scotland StreetCar Festival shows that everyone can take part in motorsport using their own everyday road car.
Supported by two Motorsport UK recognised clubs, the festival is a chance to discover the people and organisations helping make the sport more accessible, welcoming and exciting across Scotland.
Perthshire’s Saltire Rally Club has, over the last 20 years, built a strong reputation for delivering a packed calendar of accessible events, including navigational rallies and autotests that are perfect for newcomers to the sport. The club has a diverse membership with a commitment to deliver events for everyone, including the next generation of competitors.
The Scotland StreetCar Festival complements the FIA Eco Rally Scotland, an international competition in which competitors drive a competitive route in electric cars using skills of navigation, endurance and strategy. The Saltire Rally Club will holding a non-competitive touring assembly on Sunday 2 August, the perfect chance to get a taste of a touring event, with the thrill of driving engaging and scenic routes in your everyday car. Participants will be able to find out more about the club’s navigational rallies, which, like Eco Rally Scotland, can dial up the fun by adding a competitive element. Meanwhile Glenrothes Motor Sport Club will be giving thrilling autoSOLO passenger rides to Scotland StreetCar Festival visitors. Based in Fife, the club hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year, including their ‘Bacon and Brakes’ autotest series which run through the summer. Both autotests and autoSOLOs are a great way to get started and gain car control skills while being highly competitive, fun and inexpensive. Passenger rides are a great way to see how it’s done and with everyday cars capable of posting competitive times – whether powered by petrol, diesel or electricity – there’s every reason to be inspired to get involved. StreetCar Festival Scotland takes place at John Clark Motor Group, Broomhill Road, commencing with the FIA Eco Rally Scotland Ceremonial Start from 18:30 on Friday 31 July. The event continues from 09:00 to 17:00 on Saturday 1 August with autoSOLO, motorsport simulators and family-friendly activities. The touring assembly will take place from John Clark Motor Group on Sunday 2 August.
