Why give IntoSpeed a go…
If you are feeling festive or on the lookout for a gift that really keeps on giving, then you will be pleased to know that the p British Women Racing Drivers’ Club (BWRDC) IntoSpeed initiative returns for 2025, with even more dates in the diary.
IntoSpeed offers increased opportunities for women to try motorsport for the first time, centring around Hillclimbing – which participants can try in their own everyday road car.
On 21 May this last year, IntoSpeed held driver training in participation with TCS Motorsport Driver Coaching at Curborough.
Here’s what some of the participants had to say about getting involved…
Tamasine Littlejohns took part in her Ford Focus. She commented,
“It’s been really great to come along to a BWRDC day and be surrounded by like-minded women, while being supported by the club. They’ve got some great instructors here today – I couldn’t miss it!
“My son is into motorsport – I’ve spent a lot of time taking him to tracks. I think you get to a point where you’ve seen enough and want to have a go, so hopefully this is the year when I get to go on the other side of the fence.
“I didn’t really consider Hillclimbing in the past as I’ve watched a lot of Circuit Racing but I think that Hillclimbing means I will have a really nice experience doing that single run with a lot of likeminded people.”
Alex Moore, who took part in her BMW added. “It’s amazing! From the minute I turned up we’ve all had a chat about our cars and what we want to do with the day, then we all got out there and did the track walk. We all thought that it would feel one way, but as we’ve got out there and driven it, it’s evolved, and so has our confidence and learning, so I’m really enjoying it.
“I’ve always wanted to get into motorsport, ever since I was a little kid. I either wanted to be a mounted horse guard, or a racing driver, or preferably both. That didn’t pan out… but I did eventually work out that there aren’t many barriers for getting into motorsport, grassroots motorsport is welcoming and fantastic, and when you find a group of like-minded women to do it with, it’s just pure joy.”
