StreetCar joins Race for Diversity at Queen Mary University engagement event

Tuesday 11 March 2025

Forty students signed up to join an event held at Queen Mary University, London, introducing students to the StreetCar and Race for Diversity initiatives last week.

Race for Diversity aims to increase the participation and involvement of 14 to 24-year-olds from underrepresented ethnic groups and economically disadvantaged backgrounds through inspirational STEM interventions, in motorsport.

Students were then introduced to Motorsport UK’s StreetCar programme enables anyone to get behind the wheel of their car and enjoy grassroots motorsport, by joining an event at their local motor club.

In addition, volunteering opportunities within motorsport were highlighted, such as scrutineer or marshal, which provides real life experience of events and future career opportunities within the sport.

Elise Whyte, Club Development Coordinator, Motorsport UK, comments, “It was fantastic to see the drive amongst the students to learn more about how they can be involved in motorsport. The atmosphere was electric with the passion of motorsport and sharing of experiences.”

Evelkah Powell, Race for Diversity Manager, Motorsport UK, adds, “Race for Diversity aims to introduce even more students to motorsport and the opportunities that it presents, it was fantastic to present the additional opportunities that StreetCar offers alongside the initiative and to showcase the breadth and scope that a career in the industry can offer.”

The evening concluded with an hour networking event where students had the opportunity to talk to the panel and Motorsport UK team, offering them the chance to ask questions and make contacts within the industry.
