Scottish Motorsport Marshals Club gains Motorsport Rescue Ambulance, with support of British Motorsport Trust
The Scottish Motorsport Marshals Club (SMMC) unveiled its new rescue ambulance during the recent Border Access Knockhill Rally Stages, during a ribbon-cutting event attended by Dr Paul Trafford, Chair of Motorsport UK’s Medical Committee and the UK representative on the FIA Medical Commission.
The new ambulance harnesses solar energy to reduce reliance on conventional fuels and will provide invaluable equipment to the Motorsport Rescue and Medical Group, providing safety and emergency services to around 90 events including circuit racing, stage rallies and hill climbs.
The British Motorsport Trust provided £5,500 to support the purchase of the vehicle, demonstrating their continued support to the motorsport community and safety initiatives. To find out more about the trust and to provide a donation, visit: https://britishmotorsporttrust.org
SMMC started to offer rescue units to event organisers in 1975, with the rescue fleet growing from a single second-hand (sometimes borrowed) van to three modern long-wheelbase vans. All vehicles are now fully equipped with a range of technical rescue equipment including a wide variety of medical kit for pre-hospital emergency care – designed to allow the rescue crew and medic to get a competitor out of the car quickly and safely and to provide enhanced care to an advanced life support level.
Jon Bolton, SMMC’s Rescue and Medical Group Co-ordinator, comments, “Rescue, in general, has evolved to match the demands of modern motorsport over the decades since and SMMC have remained at the forefront of this. We are very excited about our new Rescue Ambulance, and you’ll see it out and about at many events this year.”
