On 8 September, Motorsport UK will host its inaugural StreetCar Festival at its Bicester Motion home, celebrating the UK’s vibrant grassroots motorsport community.   

Local StreetCar club, Oxford Motor Club, will be running the AutoSOLO taster event at the festival, providing a typical test layout to introduce newcomers to AutoSOLO and to experience the discipline, using their own vehicles, in a relaxed atmosphere. 

Attendees will need a ticket to attend the festival and try out the AutoSOLO, during which they will manoeuvrer their own vehicle around a series of slaloms and longer turns, testing precision and skill. 

Founded in 1903, Oxford Motor Club has a rich heritage in motorsport at various levels. 

Launched in 2022, StreetCar makes grassroots motorsport accessible, encouraging anyone to get behind the wheel of their car and join an event at their local motor club. Disciplines including Autotest, Car Trials, Cross-Country and Road Rallying can be enjoyed for minimal cost, with a standard unmodified road car and a free RS Clubman licence available online. 

Many of the twelve StreetCar disciplines will be showcased, including a dedicated AutoSOLO course, allowing visitors to get their first taste of motorsport and to connect with Motorsport UK clubs.   

Oxford Motor Club Membership Secretary, Shirley Blackwell comments, “With most AutoSOLOs taking place on private land where spectators are not permitted there is little opportunity for people to experience competitions and the skills of the drivers in real time.
We hope through experiencing the friendliness of the clubs and competitors, the skill and dedication of the drivers and the excitement of the competition will encourage more attendees of the StreetCar Festival to try out grassroots motorsport for themselves.” 

Oxford Motor Club will be out in full force on 8 September, including member Bob Milligan in his 1986 Mini, which will hopefully make an appearance on the day.
