Weekend in Review: 5 – 6 March 2022

Monday 07 March 2022

Spring brings with it the start of another bumper season of motorsport in the UK, and the first weekend of March served up plenty of action across the Scottish Rally Championship and British Sporting Trials Championship.

Here’s everything you need to get up to speed:

Michael Binnie and Claire Mole defend Snowman Rally title

Michael Binnie and Claire Mole claimed victory in the season-opening Snowman Rally to kick off their Scottish Rally Championship campaign on the front foot.

The duo entered the last of five stages trailing erstwhile leaders Freddie Milne and Patrick Walsh by five seconds but overturned the deficit to put their Mitsubishi Evo 9 into the winner’s circle by a margin of 19 seconds.

Lost time for Milne and Walsh in SS5 also allowed Jock Armstrong and Cameron Fair, last season’s runners-up, to take second spot, with David Bogie and Kevin Rae similarly leap-frogging the pair to seize third.

Bricknell victorious again in the British Sporting Trials Championship

Tom Bricknell overturned early leader Andy Wilks to take the spoils in the British Sporting Trials Championship’s Walsingham Trial.

Wilks was quickest out of the blocks but quickly reeled in by Bricknell, who from there was never headed out front. Relative newcomer Matthew Sharp did well to round out the top three; reigning champion Josh Veale was fifth behind Darren Underwood.

Bob Packham, Mike Readings and Simon Cowley were victorious in the red-live axle, blue independent and rookie classes respectively.
