This weekend marks the return of Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3.The championships are on the ground in Bahrain for the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix with British drivers well represented in each field – including four in Formula 1, two in Formula 2 and five in Formula 3.

On the national stage, the British Sporting Trials Championship heads to Northern Ireland for the Whitemans Mountain Trial and Lancashire plays host to the 2022 Legend Fires North West Stages with plenty more action throughout the UK.

British Sporting Trials – Northern Ireland

This weekend sees the British Sporting Trials Championship head west across the Irish Sea for round five, the Whitemans Mountain Trial. Matt Sharp currently leads the championship, ahead of Bob Packham and Arthur Carroll.

2022 Legend Fires North West Stages

This year’s event will take place with the popular ceremonial start in Garstang High Street on Friday evening and provide plenty of high-speed action on Saturday.

A bumper field of 128 cars will take on the challenge with drivers tackling the highly demanding Lancashire lanes.

Based out of Myerscough College in Preston, the event will feature 14 closed road special stages, providing approximately 60 challenging stage miles.

BRSCC Season Opener

The British Racing and Sports Car Club season begins on Silverstone’s International circuit with the Fun Cup Endurance Championship, National Formula Fords, Modified Ford Series and three Mazda MX-5 rounds.

FIA Formula 1 World Championship – Sakhir, Bahrain

After 96 days, Formula 1 is returning to our screens for the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix. This season sees a new era of car, designed to promote closer racing amongst the teams.

No. 63 driver, George Russell joins Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes to help the eight-time Constructors’ Champions to break even more records. The 24-year-old Brit from Kings Lynn will be hoping to secure his first race win, after coming so close in Sakhir in 2020. Lando Norris will start his fourth season with McLaren F1. Accompanied by Daniel Ricciardo, the young Brit has his eyes set on securing his first win for the Surrey-based team. Elsewhere on the gird, Alex Albon returns to the grid behind the wheel of a Williams.

Another familiar face to be returning for the first race of the season is Nico Hulkenberg who will be racing for Aston Martin, replacing Sebastian Vettel – who has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be missing this weekend’s Grand Prix. During testing Red Bull and Ferrari were both strong and will be ones to watch during this weekend’s race. Returning for a new title battle, Max Verstappen will be racing as No.1 having been crowned the World Champion in 2021.

FIA Formula 2– Sakhir, Bahrain

Formula 2 will be joining the Formula 1 circus in Bahrain, with 2022 marking the biggest calendar to date with 26 races across 13 rounds. Only four of the drivers from the grid will begin this season in the same seats as 2021, with 10 rookies joining the series.

Liam Lawson will be one to watch this weekend as he set the fastest times in last weekend’s testing by nearly half a second. Dennis Hauger will be making his Formula 2 debut with PREMA after winning the 2021 F3 championship by 26 points.

Britain’s Jake Hughes will be returning for his third season in Formula 2 with a brand new team: Van Amersfoort Racing. Motorsport UK Academy and Alpine Academy driver Olli Caldwell joins the Formula 2 grid for his rookie season after finishing eighth in Formula 3 in 2021.

FIA Formula 3– Sakhir, Bahrain

Formula 3 will be rounding out the single-seater action in Bahrain this weekend, as 30 young drivers kick start their 18-race campaigns. Sixteen rookies will join 14 established names, with Campos Racing’s Josep Maria Marti the youngest at just 16 years old.

Alpine junior, Victor Martins will be expected to fight for the title with ART Grand Prix, after finishing in the top 10 in four of the six sessions on testing. Red Bull junior driver and Motorsport UK Academy Team UK driver, Jonny Edgar will be returning to the grid for his second season in Formula 3 – he will be racing for Trident.

Brits make up four of the rookies this season with Ferrari Academy and Motorsport UK Academy Team UK driver, Oliver Bearman, racing for PREMA. Ayrton Simmons, who finished second in the last year’s GB3 Championship, will be racing with Charouz Racing System. 2021 GB3 Champion and Williams Academy driver, Zak O’Sullivan, will be racing for Carlin this season, and rookie Reece Ushijima, will be racing for Van Amersfoot Racing.
