For the first time since 2016, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is returning to electrify the streets of the capital with a double-header this weekend, 24-25 July 2021. There will be a strong British presence when the cars line up on home soil for the first indoor/outdoor track, designed by British architect Simon Gibbons in collaboration with the FIA and Motorsport UK.

The 2021 Heineken London E-Prix is heading East to the capital’s historic docklands at the ExCeL exhibition centre, making history as the first international motorsport series to race on indoor/outdoor circuit. The track, which was originally unveiled in 2019, has been much-modified to a shorter 2.2 kilometre circuit with 22-corners taking drivers from the track outside, through a car park and up an access ramp into South Hall of the centre. It’s the first major event to take place at the ExCeL Centre since the venue became known as the NHS Nightingale Hospital during the pandemic.

With weather warnings in place and no historic reference to grip levels, what visor will drivers choose to manage the different lighting conditions, and how will the indoor surface be managed with the more abrasive surface outside? You’ll have to watch to find out!
