Girls on Track UK shortlisted for ‘Most Inspiring Campaign’

Friday 04 February 2022

Motorsport UK is delighted to announce Girls on Track UK has been shortlisted for ‘Most Inspiring Campaign’ in the inaugural The Race Media Awards. This category recognises a campaign that has been the most effective in raising awareness and effecting change within motorsport and the wider community. The winners will be announced at the prizegiving ceremony on Wednesday, 9 February 2022, in London.

Girls on Track UK, lead by programme manager Jenny Tcherniak,  aims to demonstrate to girls and women that there is a rightful and valuable place for them in the motorsport industry and potentially inspire them to pursue a career within the industry that is still very much in need of more diversity. With the help of various partners, tailored workshops ranging from STEM activations to medical activities, Pit Stop challenges and media training, representing the vast range of motorsport career paths are delivered. The programme looks to disperse the common misconceptions that motorsport is “only for boys” and engineering is the only way into the sport.

Around 1,300 female pupils have been reached by Girls on Track UK since 2019, with events taking place at some of the most prestigious motorsport locations, including Formula 1 Grand Prix events and the ABB FIA Formula E Championships.

Many of the Girls on Track UK volunteers and members have secured internships, university placements or full-time positions in the industry, including F1 presenter Ariana Bravo, who attended her first event in December 2019.

Last year, Girls on Track UK adapted its programme around COVID-19 restrictions to deliver one live community event, seven live school events and seven networking opportunities. Two hundred seventy-eight community members attended twenty-two inspirational webinars associated with each monthly theme, and almost 500 girls participated at a live school event. Aside from the physical events, Girls on Track UK also offers free to join online communities. The 5,000+ strong Facebook community and almost 20,000 Twitter and Instagram followers support to young girls and women, either looking to gain some insight into what possibilities exist for them in motorsport, advice on an educational choice to achieve their goals or looking to find work experience.

The Race Media Awards is the first dedicated motorsport awards celebrating excellence in PR, marketing and communications. In addition to the Girls on Track UK nomination, Motorsport UK has also been shortlisted for ‘Best Live Event’ for the launch of its ROKiT Formula 4 Championship certified by FIA second generation car.
