Rob Collard and Sandy Mitchell are the new Intelligent Money British GT3 champions after Barwell Motorsport’s #78 Lamborghini claimed a second victory of the season at yesterday’s blue riband Silverstone 500 (8 November).

Pole position in qualifying and a Success Penalty-free race meant Sandy Mitchell and Rob Collard headed into the finale race as title favourites despite their six-point championship deficit to Sam De Haan and Patrick Kujala.

Collard led away from pole and battled closely with RAM’s Mercedes-AMG, piloted by Ian Loggie and Yelmer Buurman, throughout the race. Jenson Team Rocket RJN’s James Baldwin and Michael O’Brien worked their way into the leading pack towards the end of the race but struggled to match the pace of the Lamborghini.

Mitchell and Collard held strong and powered clear to a comfortable, unflustered victory and the 2020 GT3 crown. O’Brien ultimately lost out to Buurman who mounted a charge after taking over from Loggie. Second overall for Buurman and Loggie handed RAM’s #6 crew the Pro-Am title after coming into the weekend just one point behind.

Barwell also beat RAM to the Teams’ crown, while Mitchell and Collard collected the Silver Cup crown.

In GT4, Century Motorsport called its strategy perfectly to secure a victory few would have predicted at the start of the weekend as Andrew Gordon-Colebrooke and Rob Wheldon produced the perfect race to claim the glory. However, it was TF Sport’s Aston Martin crew of Dan Vaughan and Jamie Caroline who celebrated becoming GT4 champions.
