Motorsport UK’s StreetCar initiative expands to 34 member clubs
StreetCar has continued to gather momentum, with the news that 34 motor clubs – quadruple the number at launch – have now signed up to support and promote the initiative, Motorsport UK announces.
Launched back in May, StreetCar unifies 12 different disciplines of the sport under one banner, and seeks to demonstrate that the sport is affordable, fun, and accessible whilst driving participation to the club motorsport community.
As the beating heart of the UK’s vibrant motorsport community, Motorsport UK’s member clubs can sign up to become ‘StreetCar-approved’, by agreeing to a charter that commits them to run StreetCar-branded events, and offer a welcoming environment to newcomers.
In return, they benefit from Motorsport UK’s commitment to help market both the clubs and StreetCar, with the ambition of widening participation in these events.
Examples of StreetCar events include AutoSOLOs, Trials, Cross Country events and, for rally aficionados, Targa and 12-Car rallies, or Treasure Hunts. Events can be contested in a standard road car, with no extra safety equipment and using only a free Motorsport UK RS Clubman licence to compete.

Eight clubs – Anglia Motor Sport Club, Basingstoke Motor Club, Devizes & District Motor Club, Farnborough Motor Club, Loughborough Car Club, Middlesex County Automobile Club and Sporting Car Club of Norfolk – signed up at launch, and have now been joined by 25 new members, the full list of which is below.
“I’m delighted with the continued growth of StreetCar, and I’m immensely grateful to all our member clubs for the energy and enthusiasm shown in support of the initiative,” said Claire Kirkpatrick, Head of Club and Community Development.
“Our ambition has always been to grow StreetCar to 50 member clubs by the end of the year. To have over quadrupled our membership in such a relatively short space of time is a fantastic indication of the response the community has had to the project, and we’re continuing to hold conversations with motor clubs about joining on a daily basis.
“Ultimately, we want to drive more people towards motorsport as a leisure activity, and these are very encouraging first steps on that path.”
