Thursday 12 December 2024

Motorsport UK is delighted to confirm Katy Fairman has won the 2024 Award for Young Journalist of the Year.

Katy is currently working with Formula E as their Championship Journalist and has written and conducted interviews for Sport Illustrated. She also hosts her own podcast ‘Small Torque’.

Katy commented on her win, “What an incredible honour this is, and undoubtedly one of the highlights of my career. It has been a dream of mine to win this award, and to join such a talented group of previous winners is very special.

“I would like to thank Motorsport UK and their panel of judges for this wonderful recognition, in addition to the FIA Formula E World Championship and my other clients. All of this started as a blog in my bedroom over a decade ago, so to now be celebrated as the Young Journalist of the Year is beyond magical.

“It’s been a joy to tell stories from paddocks around the world, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for myself and the other individuals who applied.”

Samuel Coop, 2023 Young Journalist of the Year winner and current Editor in Chief at FormulaNerds, added, “Winning Motorsport UK’s Young Journalist of the Year was an incredible honour – and a completely unexpected one. It was a real ‘pinch me’ moment and took a while to sink in. As a prestigious award, it was transformative for my career and gave me confidence in my craft, and I will always be grateful for every opportunity it affords me.”

Katy is the second female journalist to be awarded the accolade in the past twenty years of the Young Media Awards.

The Motorsport UK Young Media Awards winners will be honoured at the annual Motorsport UK Night of Champions, held at the Royal Automobile Club on Pall Mall in January 2025. The recipients will receive a Motorsport UK trophy as well as a £1,000 prize to further their progress within motorsport media.
