Modern Tyres Ulster Rally returns with new one-day route

Thursday 01 August 2024

The Modern Tyres Ulster Rally will return on 17 August for its 47th edition, run by Northern Ireland Motor Club.

This year’s event is the penultimate round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship and could have an all-important say in the final destination of a title that Callum Devine, Keith Cronin and Matt Edwards are in strong contention to win.

Standing between them and a maximum score are eight timed tests dotted in the countryside around the Ulster Rally’s Newry HQ. Totalling eighty-three competitive miles, Clerk of the Course Colin Turkington says while the stage names may be known to people, crews will still have to do their homework.

Turkington adds, “Keeping the stages challenging for competitors and entertaining for spectators is the number one priority, the main change this year is we will be a one-day rather than the traditional two-day event.”

Jonathan Jackson, Head of Rally, Motorsport UK adds, “The Modern Tyres Ulster Rally is steeped in history and always provides Competitors with a challenging route. Moving to a one day event for 2024 won’t make it any less challenging and there is no doubt everyone involved, whether its Competitors, Officials or Marshals will enjoy a fantastic weekend in Newry.”

Further information on spectator viewing points, as well as a time and distance schedule and seeded entry list for the Modern Tyres Ulster Rally, will be available in the next few weeks from the official event website (www.ulsterrally.com).
