F1 Academy Discover your Drive programme sees 850 percent increase for Regional Final qualifiers
The F1 Academy Discover your Drive programme will have 19 drivers take part in the British Indoor Karting Championship (BIKC) Regional Finals this year, an increase of 850 percent on 2023, during which only three drivers set a qualifying lap time.
The Local Finals saw drivers take to the track, with the top five cadets and top six juniors qualifying to the Regional Finals.
The cohort consists of 15 Cadet drivers, aged 8-12 years-old, making up eight percent of total Regional Finalists, and four Juniors, aged 13-16 years-old, making up two percent of total Regional Finalists.
A record 74% of Discover your Drive participants finished on the podium in their Local Finals.
The girls now progress to the Regional Finals across three locations, running between 5 October and 19 October, competing against a strong field of national karting talent.
Rosa Dakin, Discover your Drive Manager, comments “The incredible increase in participation truly showcases how the F1 Discover your Drive Programme continues to introduce new female talent into karting. While the girls face a tough field at the Regional Finals, I wish them the very best of success – this year’s cohort have embraced the programme fully.”
