ProtoEV
Club Information
About Us
ProtoEV is a STEM competition where student teams aged 14-19 years convert used petrol go karts and turn them into fully electric high powered ekarts which they get to test and race to see which is the fastest and most energy efficient. Young people gain hands on experience of working with new and emerging electric vehicle technologies in a real-world racing environment.
Participants practice using a common solution approach to design and innovation using physics, generative design, 3D printing, mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, energy efficiency and storage, aerodynamics and budgetary factors to design and build working prototypes using existing standard kart chassis. Their prototype ekarts are then validated in the demanding environment of a motorsport competition using time trials. Judging will be based on performance, design, energy storage and how well the teams work together to problem solve.
As well as learning about battery technologies, vehicle construction, data analytics, electronic controls and braking systems, teams must also engage their local community, businesses, STEM ambassadors and sponsors. ProtoEV aims to engage and inspire young people to pursue careers in engineering and technology and/or progress them into further or higher education.
Run over the course of eight months, student teams get to test and demonstrate their knowledge, skills and capabilities to deliver continuous performance improvements that can outperform the competition using a total of three test and one competition day, in addition to training workshops for teachers, lecturers and project leads.
The ProtoEV Challenge is the brainchild of Manchester based tech education specialists The Blair Project. We want to sustain our users passion and interest in motorsport by helping them become members of the wider motorsport community within the North West.
The ProtoEV Committee has drafted new rules and regulations for the development series which will be run in accordance with the General Regulations of the Motor Sports Association (Incorporating the provisions of the World Karting Association or the FIA).

About Us
RAF Karting supports both endurance and sprint karting for members of the Royal Air Force, although members of the other Armed Forces, MOD Civilians and Cadet Forces are welcome to race as long as they are aged 16 and over.RAFMSA Karting runs two classes of racing, both of which are usually staged during a race weekend. All events are run under the jurisdiction of the MSA, which is the official governing body for four-wheeled motorsport in the United Kingdom.
Premier - This is for high-performance karts with two-stroke engines up to 125cc, which can reach speeds of up 80 mph. A variety of engines may be used including KF2, Rotax FR125, IAME Leopard, PRD Fireball, IAME EasyKart 125, TKM BT82 and TKM K4S, as well as the classic 100cc. Racing is on an individual basis, with each event usually comprised of three short-duration qualifying heats (around 6 minutes each), followed by a slightly longer final (around 10 minutes).
Endurance - This is for Honda-powered Pro-Karts and is where most new drivers start. Races are usually between two and four hours in duration, and involve teams of between two and four drivers each. This class provides an affordable way into karting, plenty of track time, and the opportunity for newcomers to learn in the company of more experienced drivers. Endurance racing also promotes organisation, teamwork and technical adaptability, as these are just as important for success as driving ability.
We hold 6 rounds of our own Championships at various locations around the UK. For more information please visit;https://www.rafsportsfederation.uk/sports/raf-motorsports-association/
