Chris Jones takes 2024 Woodford Trailers HSA British Sprint Champion title

Monday 14 October 2024

Chris Jones took the 2024 Woodford Trailers HSA (Hillclimb and Sprint Association) British Sprint Champion title at Anglesey with four rounds to spare. Such was his dominating performance in the second half of the season, he knocked current champion Pete Goulding to 2nd spot.

Chris currently drives a Force TA with a 998cc engine.

From a Westfield 1600 crossflow in 2001, Jones, who runs a graphic design company from Droitwich, turned from the road to the hills at Loton park and got the speed bug. He continued development after class records and wins and modest success to a 2nd in the HSA championship but took a break in 2011 with the arrival of his daughter.

In 2015 Jones started sprinting in a Force single seater and upgraded to a TA model from the same manufacturer in 2017. In these early days Chris blew up an engine and caught fire in testing so was not all plain sailing. Restarting with a standard 998cc engine there was a troublesome development period with the dry sump especially and then covid made development take a back seat.

Despite ill health in 2023, Chris has certainly made 2024 his year, “Coming into this season there were no expectations and no firm plans in place for a championship. The season started well after almost a year out of the car, the results improved, and I was feeling good and confident. The modifications were working well, and I started to lower records, win run offs and set FTDs.

“Mid-season, the championship looked possible so we added some extra events to the calendar, consistency was there and I was focused more than ever and driving well. It all happened very quickly and still hasn’t really sunk in. I’m delighted to say the least.”
