The Into Speed initiative continued at Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb on Saturday 4 May, a new initiative launched by the British Women Racing Drivers’ Club (BWRDC) to try motorsport for the first time. 

Initial taster day attendee Alex Moore went on to compete in her BMW E90, gaining another signature towards her full RS National licence.  

Attendees were also able to explore and exchange tips for those keen on trying out a timekeeping role at a hillclimb event. 

Members of the BWRDC and the Midland Automobile Club were on hand to provide practical support for attendees. 

Into Speed centres around the hillclimbing discipline, during which drivers compete against the clock in their very own road car. Motorsport UK is supporting the programme as part of its ongoing commitment to increase female participation throughout the sport.  

Curborough Sprint Course, near Litchfield will be hosting the next event on 21 May, offering one-to-one in-car coaching as part of a fun afternoon, with the emphasis on improving driving technique and no pressure with timing. Details can be found here. 

Prescott Hill (Gloucestershire) and Harewood Hill (Yorkshire) will also be hosting events on the on 8 June and on 3 August respectively.  

A representative fee will be payable for each day to cover the entry fees. Participants must be willing to use their own road car for the driving tuition days and any competitive events.
