Motorsport UK joins International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Wednesday 06 April 2022

Motorsport UK is joining in the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) by joining the #WhiteCard campaign and signing the Peace and Sport statement that calls for peace and unity through sport.

Sport plays a major role in conveying strong and constructive values and has the power to inspire and unite people collectively.

IDSDP provides an annual opportunity to celebrate the power of sport to drive social change, community development, to encourage equity and inclusion and to foster peace and understanding between individuals, communities and nations.

As a reference to the yellow and the red card in the sporting world, since 2014 the day has used the #WhiteCard as a symbol to represent the positive power of sport for peace and social inclusion.

The #WhiteCard symbolises that “sport is an answer” and seeks to highlight and draw attention to concrete examples of peace-through-sport programs or personal stories which highlight how sport could be an answer to social issues.

Members of the Motorsport UK team showed the #WhiteCard to demonstrate Motorsport UK’s commitment to peace, unity and social integration to foster a culture of peace.

Hugh Chambers, Chief Executive Officer at Motorsport UK, commented, “Motorsport UK is committed to providing a safe, fun and fair environment for the motorsport community and creating an environment that embraces equality, diversity and inclusion.

“The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is just one of many initiatives that allows International Federations and National Governing Bodies to use their platform as a vehicle to promote positive change.

“We all have a part to play in promoting the values that sport plays in everyday life and motorsport is a prime example of an environment that can make a positive impact on society.”

Motorsport UK members wishing to participate in IDSDP can take a picture of themselves while holding a white card, registering their story on the www.April6.org platform and sharing across social networks using the hashtag #WhiteCard and the tagging @peaceandsport.
