Led by Team Captain and GT Cup driver Christopher Froggatt, Team UK will go for gold in seven Circuit and Karting disciplines at the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games set to be held in Valencia, Spain this October.

Froggatt missed out on competing at the 2022 edition of the Games, falling unwell ahead of competition, but ably substituted by Sam Neary who claimed bronze with Ian Loggie. But he returns aiming to make his mark with Team UK and make an impression on the world stage.

Team UK will have a strong line up on the Circuit and in Karting with Jenson Brickley (Touring Car), Lwi Edwards (Drifting) and John Newell (Truck Racing), Jorge Edgar (Karting Sprint Junior), Team Titan (Karting Endurance) and Auston Gibson (Karting Mini) flying the British flag in the south of Spain.

Circuit

Lwi Edwards has made an impression on the British drifting scene, winning the 2023 Motorsport UK Drift Pro Championship. He will take to the international stage and will be competing in Drifting in his 1997 BMW E3v6 Coupe, with a LSX376 V8, Magnuson Supercharger.

I am honoured to have been chosen to represent Team UK at the Motorsport Games,” commented Edwards. “The opportunity for a small family-owned team from Wrexham to compete at the highest level in Drifting is an amazing achievement that I have been striving for the last five years. The team is working hard behind me and I am at my peak to push for a great result for Team UK.”

John Newell, who placed third in FIA ETRC European Truck Racing Championship promoters cup, will be joining the team in the Truck Racing discipline.

Newell will be Team UK’s first Truck Racing driver, and, on his participation, he commented, “I am honoured to represent Team UK in the motorsport Games because it brings everyone together as one family.”

Leicester-based Jenson Brickley will be joining the team in the Touring Car Discipline, competing in his CUPRA Leon VZ TCR. Following in his father’s footsteps he is currently leading in the TCR Spain Championship and ranks 20th globally within TCR.

Karting

Fourteen-year-old Jorge Edgar will represent the UK in the Karting Sprint Junior category, following in the footsteps of his sister, Jess, who competed in the 2018 FIA Motorsport Games.

Edgar commented, “I am really excited to be representing Team UK in the Motorsport Games and can’t wait to be out there and driving in the kart hopefully helping the team to a medal.”

2023 British University Karting Championships graduate drivers champion Rhianna Purcocks will be competing as part of Team Titan, alongside Jack O’Neill and Andy O’Neill in the Karting Endurance division.

Currently competing in Club100 she said, “I’m excited to compete again in the Motorsport Games and this time bring back a medal for Team UK.”

Fellow teammate O’Neill adds, “As a team, we cannot wait to compete at the Motorsport Games and represent Team UK, we were so close to getting a medal last time round and will be giving it everything to make sure we get the result this time – all whilst having fun of course!”

Ten-year-old Austin Gibson will be completing the team in the Karting Mini discipline, following a successful year in the 2023 Wera Tools British Kart Championships where he took the Water Swift Restricted title. He’ll look to make his stamp in a competitive field.

About FIA Motorsport Games

The FIA Motorsport Games is a unique multidisciplinary event that sees drivers competing in the colours of their national flag. Organised by SRO Motorsports Group in partnership with the FIA, six disciplines formed the schedule at the inaugural 2019 event, with 49 countries and territories represented in GT, Touring Car, Formula 4, Drifting, Karting Slalom and Digital competitions.

The second edition in 2022 saw all six disciplines return, alongside an influx of 11 new disciplines. James Baldwin claimed Team UK’s first ever gold medal in 2022, winning the Esports category whilst Ian Loggie and Sam Neary secured bronze in the GT. British drivers put in stellar performances across all competing categories and were unlucky to miss out on further medals.

Motorsport UK – one of over 70 ASNs to field a team in the FIA’s global celebration of the sport – ended the four-day competition with their first medals, in Esports and GT respectively, placing Team UK fifth in the final medal table.
